Home SPA - what accessories to choose?

Why should we consider having a SPA at home?
First of all, it’s an excellent way to take care of our soul and body. The tranquility and atmosphere that accompany SPA treatments will help us regain our balance. Thus, it is an expression of care not only for the body, but also for mental well-being. Psychological comfort has an impact on physical health, so it can improve our immunity. What’s more, we can also observe a beneficial effect on our blood circulation and skin condition. By introducing SPA rituals into our daily lives, we can pamper ourselves and our needs. As a lot of treatments are very costly when done at professional salons, it is worth mentioning that it’s also a way to save a little bit of money.
Home SPA in the bathroom
The ideal place for a home SPA is the bathroom. No matter if it’s a spacious bathing salon or if our space is limited, it will be perfect for this. We can think about SPA if we have a whirlpool tub or a walk-in shower. Many bathrooms actually only have a bathtub with a bath screen, which allows us to decide whether we wish to lie in the bathtub on a certain day, or have a massage in the shower. Also with this solution, we can create our own private SPA area. What kind of bathroom sanitary ware will help create a home SPA salon you can find in the articles “Home SPA bathroom” and “Concealed shower - SPA at home”. When arranging a bathroom, it’s best to think about it from the relaxation point of view already at the beginning. Furniture and natural materials can help here as contact with nature is always soothing and good for the body.
What do we need for a home SPA?
When dreaming about having our own SPA, we need to think everything through so that the interior is conducive to relaxing treatments. It’s not only about convenient sanitary ware. A number of factors determine our comfort. Even if we don’t normally pay attention to certain things, when we are looking for peace and quiet, we may find that there are many distractions in the bathroom. Sometimes all we need to do is make a few changes to create a more pleasant ambiance. What to keep in mind and what should to do?
- Say goodbye to the mess. Toiletries all over the place, laundry overflowing the hamper and other loose items create chaos. They make the bathroom feel like a mess. Getting rid of it is one of the first things we need to do to create a SPA at home. Disorder has a negative impact on our body, it occupies our thoughts and prevents us from focusing on our treatment and relaxation.
- Atmospheric lighting. For years, interior designers have emphasized that light plays a major role and significantly affects the body, wellness and mood. We can’t forget about it when arranging our bathroom. Apart from general ceiling lighting, we need to remember about additional lighting, which will illuminate the area around the mirror. Subtle and warm light is important for a home SPA. In addition to traditional lamps, candles can be a good option, too.
- Colors and accessories. Tidying up your bathroom is the first step toward making your home SPA as beneficial as possible. However, apart from putting away unnecessary objects, it’s also worth thinking whether there is harmony between the accessories and the base colors used in the interior. Therefore, towels and soap containers should be chosen carefully.
- If our bathroom has a window, we could also consider getting some plants. Greenery soothes the mind and allows us to calm down more easily. There are plenty of species that don’t just survive in the bathroom, they actually thrive in there. Besides, they will not only have a good effect on psychological well-being, but will also help eliminate moisture, which is abundant in every bathroom. You can read more about them in the article “Plants in the bathroom”.
How to prepare for home SPA treatments?
Once we’ve made sure there are no distractions in the bathroom, we can go a step further and prepare our body for the treatments. Mental attitude is very important and a state of intense irritation might not necessarily be the right moment. Fortunately, there are some ways to mentally put yourself in the mood for this form of relaxation. Besides, we can make SPA treatments a regular ritual.
Home SPA accessories
So, what should we get? A bathrobe that is pleasant to the touch will certainly come in handy. It’s better if we don’t get dressed immediately after the treatment as it is a moment of rest for the body and a time when many beauty products get absorbed into the skin. With the bathrobe, you won’t feel cold and at the same time it will wrap you up in a soft fabric. Bath flip-flops will be equally handy. Before getting to the actual SPA part of the evening, prepare two soft towels: one for your hair and one for your body. What’s more, scented candles will put you in the mood. Among the aromas that will work best in this case are cedarwood, vanilla and flowering cotton. Looking for fresh scents, it’s worth reaching for peppermint and citrus oils. To calm yourself down before bed, lavender will be good, and to relax, choose ocean fragrance. Adding elements of aromatherapy will allow you to enjoy the time spent in your SPA even more. And don’t forget about the right music. If you take care of all these elements, you will be able to put yourself in the right mood even after a very tiring day.

Home SPA treatments
Since we already know what a bathroom where we can organize a home SPA should look like, we can now think about what kind of treatments can be done there. The concept of SPA is very broad, so the range of how to take care of our body will be as well. However, it’s always a good idea to start with a relaxing bath, either in the bathtub or the shower. Pleasant warm water will help wash away tension. Then we can move on to beauty treatments. They can be divided into three categories: those for the face, body and hair. We don’t have to do them all. Besides, everyone’s body is different and sometimes there are contraindications to some procedures, but it’s enough to introduce some of them to derive a lot of satisfaction from our home SPA.
Facial treatments
First, we need to cleanse our face of all impurities: makeup, dust, sebum. Without this the skin won’t be able to absorb precious ingredients contained in beauty products. Our SPA session is a good moment to exfoliate dead skin cells. The skin will be moisturized and firmer. Next, we can reach for a hydrating, firming or regenerating face mask adapted to our skin’s needs. After peeling or washing off the mask, it’s time for moisturization with a cream. Gentle massages are good also, and can be done with your fingers or special accessories. During facial care we shouldn’t forget about the neck and cleavage.
Body treatments
We can start with these in the shower or during the bath. Here, it’s worth reaching for scrubs and gloves, which will exfoliate and massage at the same time. After bathing, we can proceed to moisturizing or oiling. Special attention should be paid to feet and hands, which also need care. Beauty products for these parts of the body are also plentiful, so we can easily find those that will meet our expectations.
Hair treatments
At this stage, the second of the towels you prepared earlier will come in handy. Wash your hair with a preferred shampoo and then move on to conditioning, oiling or laminating your hair. It’s a good idea to use a hair sauna to help your hair care products penetrate deep into the hair. Simply apply a hair mask or serum, lean over a bowl with hot water and cover your head with a towel. The steam will open up the hair cuticles, allowing your hair to absorb the active ingredients. Or, instead, you can put a hair mask, then a foil cap and a towel. This is much more comfortable and will allow you to indulge in other treatments at the same time.
The basic SPA accessories we need to think about are a silicone massager, a brush with massage nodules, the before mentioned cotton towels and a foil cap. Sponges or pumice stone made of volcanic lava will come in handy, too. Some people run foot or eye area massagers as part of their home SPA treatments. There are also plenty of other beauty accessories, but some of them are quite expensive and require a place to store them, so it’s better to start with something simple and search for something you’re most interested in, what serves your skin and well-being. With some knowledge of what we expect, it will be easier to choose the perfect accessory.

What beauty products for a home SPA?
Treatments wouldn’t be possible without beauty products. First of all, we should get bath salts, bubble bath, shower gel and body scrub. The latter can be purchased readymade or we can make it ourselves, for example from coffee.
Next on the list of necessary products are face scrubs and masks, as well as cleansing products, like foam, milk and toner. Here we need to take a close look at our skin. Some products are for sensitive skin, and others for acne-prone or oily skin. Then there’s the cream and serum, as well as special products for hands and feet. For hair, the type of shampoo and conditioner will be important. We can also get rinses and products for oiling.
When shopping, it’s best to focus on natural products and those with good ingredients since a home SPA is supposed to serve our body in every respect.
