Is the bathtub with a screen comfortable?
Bathroom renovations always involve dilemmas, especially when it comes to small bathrooms. This type of arrangements are, above all, meant to provide comfort of use, and a bath screen will undoubtedly provide it. It is installed on the bathtub, which allows us to use it in a traditional way, meaning take a long bath in a bathtub filled with water, or take a shower in it, just like in a shower unit. The screen will perform the same function as the shower enclosure - it will protect walls and floor from splashing. It can be folded and unfolded, but its advantages don’t end there.
Advantages of bath screens
You don’t have to wait for a renovation to equip your bathroom with a screen. It can be installed at any time, and that saves a lot of money. Firstly, a screen is cheaper than a good shower enclosure and secondly, even if it turns out that the bathtub doesn’t meet our expectations, we don’t have to prepare ourselves for an expensive renovation.
The second advantage is that it saves space, which lacks in small bathrooms. Choosing this solution, we can enjoy the benefits of both a bathtub and a shower unit - no need to search for additional space for the shower enclosure. Besides, we use less water when showering than when bathing, which translates into lower bills. Although the biggest incentive to buy a bath screen is its functionality, by choosing a model that matches the decor, we can make it a decorative and integral part of the design.
Types of shower screens - which one to choose for a small bathroom?
A small bathroom with a bathtub can be even more functional if we install a bath screen. But with several types of bath screens available, choosing the best one isn’t that obvious. Below are the basic types that can be found on the market.
- Single hinged screens. This model is mounted on hinges that are hidden in the wall strip. It can be folded and unfolded according to our needs.
- Sliding bath screens. This screen uses a similar mechanism to the one found in sliding door closets. Its unquestionable advantage is that a larger area is protected from water than in the case of a single pane door, making it very practical.
- Double folding bath screen. Such screens have folding doors and there’s no need to install guides on the bathtub rim. All we need to do is screw the profile to the wall. They also offer a lot of freedom for manoeuvre - they can be folded in half or unfolded to their full width.
- Double screens with a fixed element. As the name suggests, they consist of a fixed element and a part that can be open. Such models have a very contemporary look, and the screen panes can be connected with profiles that harmonize with the color scheme of the bathroom. What we should pay attention to, though, is whether the opening part doesn’t interfere with the shower faucet.

Why choose a double folding bath screen?
Any type of screen can be a good option for a small bathroom. However, double folding screens are particularly popular. Usually a small bathroom also means a small bathtub, so the space for the screen is quite limited. We should be aware that a 70cm screen won’t protect the bathroom from splashing water completely, so it’s better to opt for something larger. On the other hand, when installing the screen, we should leave some space that will allow us to enter the bathtub freely. This in turn means that the screen shouldn’t be too wide. This looks like a stalemate, but a double folding bath screen can help solve this problem.
Both parts of such a screen are movable, which makes it possible to adjust the panes as required. Such a screen can be folded when we enter the bathtub and take a normal bath. In this way it doesn’t make entering the bathtub difficult, even if the tub is pretty small. On the other hand, before taking a shower and after getting into the bathtub, the screen can be unfolded, effectively protecting the walls and floor from water. If there’s little space in the bathroom, we can also consider sliding models, which move along the edge of the bathtub. On the other hand, if there’s room for the screen panes to fold down, we can consider a folding screen without any worries.
Cleaning bath screens
One of the doubts that sometimes arise with shower screens is what the cleaning process is like. Bath screens are cleaned exactly the same way as shower enclosures. Models with a protective coating are the best choice, and in the case of SanSwiss bath screens, it’s the Aquaperle coating. It makes the water flow down the pane in single droplets, and not the way it is with unprotected glass where it flows down in streams. This protects the surface from stains and limescale, which later are quite hard to get rid of. As a result, cleaning is very easy and quick, and the bath screen will look great for years.
